Cat Adrift, A
- “Our Choice” List, Canadian Children’s Book Centre
In this third story in the Teelo the Cat series, it is breakfast time on Cloud Island and Teelo is shocked to discover a rat nibbling at his food bowl. Immediately, he gives chase—all over the house, out the door, and up a tree. Just as Teelo is about to pounce, however, he hears a loud CCCC-RACK as the branch snaps in two.
Teelo tumbles into the sea and scrambles onto a log. For a day and a half Teelo weathers life adrift on the log, discovering new creatures: silvery salmon, furry sea otters, little puffins, and huge gray whales. Rescue finally comes when a wooden sailboat glides alongside Teelo. A young girl named Lilly and her grandfather pull Teelo onto their boat. Teelo soon becomes a part of the crew.
One day they see Cloud Island. When a wave knocks him overboard, Teelo finds himself washed up on the shore and into the midst of his old friends. Now Lilly and Victor the Vet must decide where Teelo really belongs.
Reviews:
“This new adventure of Teelo’s is as fun and exciting as the first ... The text and pictures fit together very well, and the whole book is very attractive. It should be an interesting read-aloud for young children, and a fun story for older children to read to themselves.”
